Meet the athletes representing Ottawa Valley Boxing in the ring.
Melodie Payette
Melodie is one of our U19 competitive athletes at Ottawa Valley Boxing, with three bouts under her belt since beginning her training in 2024. In a short time, she has established herself as a driven and focused athlete with clear goals in the sport.
This year, Melodie earned a Silver Medal at the 2026 Brampton Cup Tournament, marking an important step in her competitive development. Known for her work ethic and determination, she continues to push her performance forward as she builds experience in the ring.
Outside of her own training, Melodie assists with coaching within our club, working with both our Kids and Non-Competitive Contact programs and helping develop the next generation of athletes.
Luke McVeigh
Luke is one of our U17 competitive athletes at Ottawa Valley Boxing, with two bouts since stepping into the competitive program in the fall. In a short time, he has shown excellent consistency and work ethic, progressing quickly as he continues to develop in the sport.
This year, Luke earned a Bronze medal at the 2026 Brampton Cup Tournament, marking a strong start to his competitive career. His growth since entering the program has been significant, reflecting both his commitment to training and his ability to apply what he’s learning in the ring.
He plans to compete throughout the summer, with his sights set on the Novice Tournament in London this August, and into the fall as he continues to build his competitive experience and career.
Maïna Buisson
Maïna is one of our Female Elite competitive athletes at Ottawa Valley Boxing. Since joining the club in the fall of 2025, she has shown strong drive and focus on her training, continuing to invest in her development each time she’s in the gym.
Her commitment and willingness to push herself have set a solid foundation as she prepares to step into the ring for her first bout this summer. She has also committed herself to improving her skills at Female Development Camps, local sparring opportunities and even supporting our team at Brampton Cup this past February.
Maïna plans to continue building her competitive experience, with her sights set on competing in the Novice Tournament in London this August.
Charlie Malette-Belland
Charlie is one of our U12 competitive athletes at Ottawa Valley Boxing, with her first bout scheduled for May 9th, 2026. She has been training with the club for the past year, consistently investing time and energy into developing her skills and building her experience in the sport.
Charlie brings a strong work ethic, courage, and a willingness to learn each time she steps into the club. Her commitment to training has set a solid foundation as she begins her competitive journey.
Charlie has participated in Female Development Camps, inter-club sparring and local sparring opportunities to continue building her skills and techniques in the sport. She is committed to improving her skills and techniques as a competitive fighter. She plans to compete throughout the summer, with her sights set on the Athena Women’s Tournament in June and the Novice Tournament in London this August, while continuing to take on new opportunities as they arise.
Josiah Newman
Josiah is one of our U12 competitive athletes at Ottawa Valley Boxing. He has been training with the club since the spring of 2024 and has shown significant growth in his skills, experience, and character over time.
Since joining our contact classes in the fall of 2026, Josiah has made significant progress, developing greater focus and confidence in his training. He continues to challenge himself by stepping up for sparring opportunities and is always willing to travel with the team to gain valuable experience and support our team. He plans to begin actively competing by end of summer and take on new opportunities as they arise to continue building on his competitive journey in this sport.
Ryan Selim
Ryan is one of our Male Elite Novice athletes at Ottawa Valley Boxing and serves as a Sergeant in Petawawa, currently acting as Platoon Commander of 1RCR’s Anti-Armour Platoon. Since beginning his training in January 2026, Ryan has developed quickly within the sport through his consistency and strong investment in learning the technical and physical demands of boxing. He brings discipline, focus, and a high standard of work ethic into every training session. Ryan continues to build experience through sparring and team training, and events, gaining valuable exposure as he prepares for future competitions. He plans to step into the ring for his debut this fall and is looking to take part in opportunities such as the Clash of Cartier fundraising boxing event as he begins his competitive journey.
